Courses Taught
- Advanced Administration for Library Media Center (LIBM 5123) A master’s level course that provides an in-depth examination of the management and administration of the school library media center. Course covers the basics of organizational structure, planning, budget management, human resource issues and skills, and examines the role of the school library media center in the learning community.
- Information Resources and Services (LIBM 5513) A master’s level course that explores various resources and methods for locating information. Course also includes the evaluation of individual reference sources and the collection with regard to reference service and research.
- Acquisition and Organization of Library Materials (LIBM 5413) A master’s level course that examines basic principles and procedures for obtaining and adding access to various types of materials in a school library media center. Topics include acquisitions, cataloging and classification, circulation, online systems and collection maintenance.
- Advanced Materials for Young Adults (LIBM 5313) A master’s level course that surveys literature, periodicals, video, and other formats of interest to support the middle school/high school curriculum. Presents necessary techniques for creating meaningful literature experiences and methods to foster lifelong reading habits.
- Educational Research (EDUC 5103) A master’s level course that examines the place of research in serious study, some of the common techniques of research, presentation of the results of research, and the use of research in critical thinking.
- Materials for Children (LIBM 4023) An undergraduate course that explores resources and services for children in terms of their needs, interests, and abilities. Evaluation, selection, and use of multimedia materials in school media centers.
- Organization of Information (LBSC 5413) A master’s level course examining the basic principles of the organization of information in schools. Information and knowledge organization techniques that exist or are emerging and focuses on standards and tools that are used in educational environments.
- Administration of School Library and Technology (LBSC 5823) A master’s level course the explores the vision of, planning, organizing, policy making, staffing, budgeting, decision-making and evaluating a standards-based school library media or school technology program.
- Applications of Educational Technology (EDTC 3123) An undergraduate course which provides an introduction to the design and development of instruction using educational media and technology. Materials development, contemporary applications of computers and other electronic systems to instruction. Integration of instructional design, instructional media, and instructional computing.
- Academic Strategies (ENGL 1003) an undergraduate student success course that teaches study skills, time management, and degree planning to increase student persistence, retention, success in developmental and entry-level college courses, and graduation rates.
